I’ve been a marketing specialist, image consultant, model, makeup artist, photographer, stylist, life coach, spiritual mentor, creative director, business owner and a dozen other things along the way.

I’ve always been interested in more than one thing. For years, I was told what that meant. That I was "still" finding myself.

You need to focus.

Find your niche.

Pick one thing.

I understood the advice. I just never quite knew how to make myself fit inside it Or maybe I did, here and there, but it never felt right. Because none of those lives ever really felt separate to me. They were all ways of seeing. Of making. Of asking questions. Of noticing what was possible. I wasn’t looking for an identity to settle into. I’ve always wanted a life that could hold all of me.

TO BE IN RESIDENCE OF IT ALL.

I don’t believe we need to spend our entire lives fixing ourselves, finding ourselves, optimizing ourselves, or turning ourselves into something more acceptable. Sometimes we simply need to inhabit the life that’s already here.

The beautiful parts. The unfinished parts. The contradictory parts. The ordinary Tuesday parts. The parts that make sense and the parts that don’t. The work. The motherhood. The home. The creativity. The faith. The relationships. The ambition. The quiet. The mess.

All of it gets to belong.

That’s what being In Residence means to me. To stop standing outside your own life, constantly evaluating it, and actually come inside. Live here. This is what I’m exploring through Life With Shiva.
